WHAT TO WEAR THE DAY OF:
Please see below for some helpful tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your headshot session. Please see the following key points below provided some videos below for those that are interested in more info.
Solid colors are the best choice for your clothing. Preferably darker colors with no patterns, logos or graphics. Avoid bright, white, pastel or other distracting colors.
Women should avoid sleeveless shirts unless covered by a jacket. Also avoid plunging necklines and turtlenecks.
Avoid shiny fabrics — no silk or satin
Jewelry should be simple and clean as to be a distraction. Avoid large pieces and note that long necklaces may end up being cropped out of the image. You can bring a clip to tighten longer necklaces if desired.
If you choose to wear a jacket, consider pairing it with a collarless top. This is modern and keeps the neckline simple and sleek. Crisply ironed shirts by themselves frame the face really well.
Men, if you wear an undershirt, opt for a v-neck with sleeves so that it’s not visible. Ideally, your undershirt should match your skin tone.
Wear your glasses in your photo if you usually wear them in your business dealings.
Avoid bulky clothing, like thick sweaters, heavy jackets or overly embellished blouses, as they will make you look larger than you are.
REPEATING FOR EMPHASIS: Please avoid anything that will detract attention from your face, including busy patterns, logos, words, etc. Keep the viewer focus on your face, not your wardrobe.
THINGS TO CONSIDER AHEAD OF TIME:
Men, shave with a new razor, shaving cream, and a moisturizing after-shave lotion to avoid bumps and redness. Trim up your beard, sideburns, moustache or goatee, especially looking for wiry stray hairs. Make sure if you have a late afternoon photo session that you shave. Particularly if you have dark whiskers. Men with beards should think about trimming up that beard so that it looks sharp.
If you need a hair cut, visit the barber or stylist at least three or four days before your headshot so your hair has a chance to settle in and look natural.
Make sure to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your headshot, as this will help your skin look fresh, healthy and give you an extra glow for your images (especially for those of you traveling to Denver from lower elevations).
